In direct comparison with the other four handsets that have been released to showcase Microsofts new operating system, the Mozart 7 stands head and shoulders above the rest due to its external design and advanced camera. The Mozart 7 is the only WP7 phone on the market that can boast an eight megapixel camera with xenon flash, plus HD video recording. The casing design is superb to look at, especially the back cover that uses various materials and smooth, flowing lines to hide certain function buttons and catches.

You would be forgiven for thinking that just because the Mozart 7 is named after a famous Austrian composer, that means it should offer superb sound and music reproduction; unfortunately you would be wrong as this is simply not the case. The Mozart 7 is competent at reproducing music but no more than that, plus the headphones supplied with the unit are of poor quality; although there are audio output settings which can adjust the levels and soundstage to your liking. Digital photo capture is another area that the Mozart 7 is lacking in, not because of quality, but more due to its color reproduction.

Whilst utilizing the Windows Phone 7 operating system has meant that the unit is responsive, speedy and easy to use, it also holds back the Mozart 7 in other areas; one important area being memory expansion. Though, as the OS is a brand new release, there will be updates in the future to deal with the teething issues that are expected in this situation. Ignoring the disappointing camera and sound reproduction, this is a great smartphone that is extremely capable and should certainly be on your shortlist.

LG have also produced a Windows Phone 7 phone known as the Optimus 7Q. Overall, its a good phone that has good connectivity and 8GB storage capacity. The 3.5inch screen and 480 x 800 pixel resolution, plus the 5 megapixel camera are all excellent. Its also currently the only Windows Phone 7 phone to come with both a touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard. Largely, the keyboard is a good thing but its a little uncomfortable to use and also adds considerable bulk to the phone, which weighs it down.

The Blackberry Torch is the latest Blackberry handset to hit the international market. Being branded by RIM as the best Blackberry ever; a bold statement and one that has come under some scrutiny based on its specifications. Still, great mobiles phones tend to amount to more than the sum of their parts, so that is what we are going to find out in this article.

The reason Blackberry can call this their best ever is because, on paper, it is. The latest 6th generation Blackberry operating system, the full QWERTY keyboard, the 4GB internal storage capacity; all these things make up a potentially great handset. Strangely though, it also carries over the same 600Mhz processor from the previous 9700 model, although tweaked slightly for a higher clock speed.

When the Torch was first announced, the leaked pictures showed a gadget that held promise for Research in Motion's future, a handset that was pleasing to the eye, yet oozed functionality. Upon release, the competition caught up, though it still retains a sense of style with the well integrated slide out keyboard and (relatively) large display. The new operating system is much easier to work with than the 5th generation, even if it is not that much different, it just works better. Multi-tasking is one area that the Torch shines in, with a simple ease to switching between running programs compared to the time consuming methods that previous Blackberries, such as the Bold featured. The keyboard is also probably the best you can buy on a slide phone.

When the Torch was first announced, RIM promised a new generation of handsets with a new outlook from the company. What has arrived is a slight detour from RIM and a handset that is certainly improved over previous models, but not the market shattering, feature packed product we were promised. The most confusing aspects to most fans is the poor screen resolution (compared to similar handsets) and lack of true touchscreen integration in the OS.

If you have always bought Blackberries in the past, then the Blackberry Torch may well be what you are looking for. If you are new to the brand, simply put, try something else. The 9800 is a decent handset, but it just can not hold a torch (sorry) against the likes of the iPhone 4G and Google Nexus One. The Torch, although it can do some things well, seems to be a generation behind everything else in almost every area. It may be the best Blackberry ever but, unfortunately, their best is not good enough.
