Apps that encourage or help with creativity are becoming particularly popular on the two systems, especially with artists, web designers, logo designers , writers and poets.
So with that in mind, here are a couple of the best applications available for the iPhone and/or the iPad to help with creativity:
Idea Sketch:
Idea Sketch is a totally free app that allows you to turn your iPhone into the ultimate brainstorm notepad; turning the screen into an editable mind-map. No real functionality other than the basic mind-map program, but you wouldn't expect too much from a free application. This application is actually genuinely useful, and should be utlised just to see what new ideas, methods, etc. you come up with at the end of the session.
Moodboard:
Moodboard is an iPad application that allows you to put together .. er.. a moodboard surprisingly. Your moodboard can contain colours, pictures, text, video, music, anything you like really, and can be saved for future reference. Exceptionally useful for designers, this is create for making individual moodboards for each logo design , website design or art project you're working on.
Sketchbook Pro
This is another iPad application, it costs a few quid but it's absolutely worth it. Sketchbook, once opened, allows you to draw or paint with a myriad of materials, directly onto your iPad screen using nothing but your fingers. You can easily select your brush type, stroke thickness, colour and numerous other options and it even has photoshop type layers for more complex drawings, illustrations for a logo, etc.
Things Things is a project and time management application that is extremely useful to designers, writers, etc. Although you'd be right in saying it's not strictly an application to increase creativity, it's extremely useful for freelancers as it allows you to properly keep track of the time you're spending on each project. It's extremely useful for project management and even makes billing easier, particularly if you bill for your work by the hour. Again it costs a few quid, but if you're a freelancer then it could be the perfect addition to your working arsenal.
